The Problem - We are told that the 21st dynasty (conv. 1080-945) Siamon (conv. 978-959) transferred the royal mummies in his 10th year on the 17th day of the 4th month in the winter season to their locations into that one tomb found by Brugsch. Since Pinudjem II (conv. 990-969) had enlarged the tomb of the `royal mummies' and used it for the departed of his own family including Djed, and since he himself died in the reign of Siamon, and since his and his family's mummies were found in the furthest and deepest chamber, where all other mummies were placed there after those of his family? - The queston is, in what sequence did these named rulers die and in what order where they placed into this tomb found by Brugsch..
The linen label of Djed said it was in the year 11 (935) when his wrapping took place, that is 34 years after the tomb was sealed in 969, the 10th year of Siamon according to convention. But then it was discovered that the linen, that was used to label each transported mummies each of whose name was inscribed with black ink, that linen was made in the 10th year of Shosenk-meryamun of the 22nd dynasty (945-712), which would be about the year 935 in conventional chronology. The problem then is this: Since Pinudjem II placed all these older mummies in his prepared tomb in the year 969, among them the large, heavy sarcophagus of Seti the Great (conv. 1291-1278) and others near the entrance, how could the sarcophagus of Djed be carried past that of Seti into the deepest (furthest inside) chamber past that of Seti's blocking the tunnel? The burial of Djed, a member of the 22nd dynasty, obviously could not have occurred after that of these supposedly older 19th dynasty (conv. 1293-1185) rulers coffins were placed near the entrance, it must have occurred before their placement in the tunnel (see time line as to the problem).
The Solution to the Problem: Revised chronology provides the logical, and we hope, historical solution to the problem. The royal mummies were all transported in the 10th year of the last of these persona, Siamon. Since he decided to place all mummies and their sarcophagi into the tomb provided by Pinudjem (var. Peinuzem), whose family and his own body were already interred in the deepest chamber, Siamon had all other mummies placed in the spaces starting from before the deepest chamber toward the entrance. Thus the sarcophagus of Seti the Great ended up near the entrance because of its weight and size. The sarcophagus of Djed never needed to be moved past that of Seti.
