In Egypt the representations of skillfully ivory carved bull's hoofs on the legs of chairs during 1st dynasty times changed to lion paws in later times. Ivory bull's legs were found in the royal tombs at Abydos. [For images see C. Aldred, `Egypt to the End of the Old Kingdom', London, 1965, p. 56]

A detail of the central panel on a massive limestone throne base found at Nimrud shows a ceremonial meeting of the Assyrian king Shalmaneser III (right) and Marduk-zakir-shumi (left) whom he had reinstated on the throne of Babylon. The kings appear to meet as equals helping us understand how he conducts himself in his EA letters to Egypt's Akhnaton.

A detail of the palace of Ashurnasirpal showing an attendant with a horse as they were bridled in Assyria.
