Please note that we bring here out especially the account in 2. Kings 9:16ff. Further does the chart show when Ahab himself (876-853) and his son Ahazia reigned, and then later, when Jehoshaphats son Ahaziah, sometimes also differentiated as Azariah (2Chr. 22:6) and Jeohoahaz (2Chr. 21:17; 25:23) reigned, for a similar brief time as Ahab's Ahaziah. - Data coincide with Edwin Thiele's account.
Remember, when dealing with regnal years, if someone reigned 2 years, that could mean 1 year plus a few months more, or it could mean 2 years plus some more months. We have to allow for flexibility. Why Jehoshaphat named his two sons like those of Ahab, we don't know. Perhaps it was a positive reason or a negative.
- Ahab's two sons by Jezebel were Ahaziah/Azariah and Jehoram/Joram: Ahaziah of Samaria reigned two years (853/852 BC) when he died of injuries from a fall.
a) Scriptures for Ahaziah: 1.Kings 22:40ff; 22:49-53; 2.Kings 8:
b) Scriptures for Jehoram/Joram: 2.Kings 1:2ff; 8:16; 8:25,28,29.
2.Chr. 20:35-37. Jehoram/Joram (2.Ki. 3; 8:25; 9) was the successor of his brother Ahaziah; he was murdered by Jehu who shot him with an arrow.
- Jehoshaphat's double named sons, to differentiate them from the two sons of Ahab by the same names, which were Ahazia/Azariah and Jehoram/Joram, is important. Joram/Jehoram of Judah was 32 years old when he became king, and reigned for 8 years (848-841 BC) after his 5 year coreign since 853 BC, and was succeeded by Ahaziah, who reigned 1 year (841 BC).
c) Scriptures for Joram/Jehoram: 2.Kings 8:16-24; 11:22;
d) Scriptures for Ahaziah/Azariah: 2. Kings 8:24
2. Chr. 20:35-37. Jehoram of Judah was the evil predecessor of Ahaziah/Azariah of Judah.
