The Fortress of Kadesh as carved by Thumoses III at Karnak. A significant clue to the topographical features of the `Kadesh' of the time of Ramesses may be that his artists represent the fortified town as being surrounded by a larger and a lesser river of water. See our paper on `Ramses 2' on this detail. Please notice the triangular merlons at the top of the walls. Compare with the carving of Carchemish at Niniveh.
