The book of Acts demonstrates that Paul was preaching very similar doctrines to the pagans. They professed to believe in the blood sacrifice (crucifixion) and resurrection of their own god-men before Paul had arrived, as the following passage indicates:

Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there. Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said,

"What does this babbler want to say?"

Others said,

"He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,"

because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection. (Acts 17:17-18)

The Christian reply. [Christian in our usage means to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ - in obedience to His law and studying His Word. For us being a Christian has nothing to do with the Crusades, the Inquisition, the burning at the stake of martyrs, the Pope, Billy Graham or Benny Hinn.]

This speech of the Apostle Paul does not show that he preached similar doctrines to the pagans, it shows only that he was acquainted with them and used his knowledge to try and speak some sense to the Athenians. After all pre-Muslim Arab lands had also pagan gods like the goddess Allat, the bringer of fertility and destruction, a seemingly strangely disparaging combination of human events.[See BA, Sept. 1985, p. 147]

Beliefs Bible Believing Christians have in Common with Muslims

1) Like Christians, Muslims believe in an Almighty, all knowing, loving God.
2) Like Christians, Muslims believe in the final judgment. They accept the fact that human beings are morally responsible for their actions.
3) Like Christians, Muslims believe in a final resurrection from the dead at the time of the return of the Messiah.
4) Like Christians, Muslims give great emphasis to assisting and helping the poor.
5) Like Christians, Muslims believe in a prayer life.
6) Like Christians, Muslims forbid alcohol, gambling, and pork (Lev. 10:9-10; 11; Romans 14:21. On matters of healthful living, if it was detrimental in the days of Moses, so it is today. We are to keep our body clean for it is to be the temple of the Holy Spirit. In these matters it is not how little we can get away with in obeying God, but should be how much we really love Him.).
7) Like Christians, Muslims put emphasis on obedience to God.
8) Like Christians, Muslims believe in a great controversy between good and evil.

Muslim beliefs contrary to Biblical thought

1) Jesus is a prophet but not the eternal Son of God.
The Christian reply: "Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am." John 8:58
"And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." Exodus 3:14
"But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, [though] thou be little among the thousands of Judah, [yet] out of thee shall he come forth unto me [that is] to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth [have been] from of old, from everlasting." Micah 5:2
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6
2) The Bible is not really reliable
Like all ancient writings, the first book of the Bible - Genesis - was originally a family history written on clay tablets and kept by the persons mentioned in each of the family histories which make up the Book of Genesis. For the studious account of this view click here.
The ancient scribes of Israel were very meticulous when copying Biblical books on new scrolls. So much so, that when they were done they would do a count of the letters to be sure that nothing was missed. Some of the Dead Sea scrolls testify to the fact that the Biblical books of which portions were found are still reading the same way.
"The words of the LORD [are] pure words: [as] silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever." Psalm 12:6-7
"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." Matthew 12:35
"Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105
3) Salvation is attained by following the five religious duties of Islam
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23
"Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear." Isaiah 59:1-2
"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Genesis 2:17
"Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments." Exodus 20:5-6
"For thou hast made him [man] a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all [things] under his feet:" Psalm 8:5-6
"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that brings good tidings, that publishes peace; that brings good tidings of good, that publishes salvation; that says unto Zion, Thy God reigns! Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion. Break forth into joy, sing together, your waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all." Isaiah 53:4-6
"His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged [is] accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance." Deuteronomy 21:23
4) Revelations through Mohammed supersede the Bible. They provide a source of salvation.
"Thy righteousness [is] an everlasting righteousness, and thy law [is] the truth." Psalm 119:142
"A Psalm of David. The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever." Psalm 23
"This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12
"Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I [am] God, and [there is] none else." Isaiah 45:22

Comparing the Genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1:6-16 and Luke 3:23-31

Ever wandered about the puzzling differences in names and number of ancestors as we find them in Matthew chapter 1 and in Luke chapter 3? The explanation is fairly simple to understand without haveing to repeat all the names. All we need to look at are the last two or three names.

In Matthew we have 26 generations from David to Jesus. Then we have Jesus as the son of his "stepfather" Joseph. That means, Joseph was not his birth father, only the father who raised him up - Compare Matthew 1:16.

Genealogy of Jesus Jacob > Joseph > Jesus

In Luke we have 42 generations from David to Jesus in reverse order using the maternal line of descendants. Then we have Jesus presented as the stepson of Joseph, the son-in-law of Heli.

Jesus > Joseph the son-in-law of > Heli

Therefore, Heli was the father of Mary and these genealogies used the word "father" for father by birth as well as for "step-father".

The number of names being more in Luke from David to Jesus is so for the same reason. The family line of Mary had more members. They may have lived shorter lifes over that span of time.

Why does the Bible give the genealogy these two ways? Because they wanted to show to the people without a doubt that Jesus was of a line of sinners, both, on his stepfather's side and his mother's side. That is important because Jesus never sinned. That is how he could be the Savior of all mankind who ever lived. He died already for all. The sins of all people who ever lived were laid upon him. Those who believe that and accept him as their savior and choose to live like he did, then repent from their sins and immitate his life of not sinning will be able to better their life, live happier and be saved at the end of time.

Most Christians have only part of the truth as taught in the Bible. Most want to go to heaven on their own terms. They want God to accept them as they are without changing their life from a life of continuing in sinning.

The Bible teaches that the glory of God is to sinners a consuming fire. When God ends the reign of sin in this world, when he comes in the clouds, only those who accepted Jesus as their savior will be able to stand on their feet and welcome Him. All people have only two choices: For or against God.

God will end the reign of sin in this world soon. We do not have much time left.

Islamic Objection

The Gentiles already knew the stories of dying and rising gods before Paul came to them, he was only recycling the legends of the Mystery Religions.

"The divine teacher is called, is tested by the "adversary", gathers disciples, heals the sick, preaches the Good News about God's kingdom, finally runs afoul of his bitter enemies, suffers, dies, and is resurrected after three days. This is the total pattern of the sun god in all the ancient dramas". (Tom Harper, The Pagan Christ, p. 145)

The Christian reply.

"The Gentiles already knew the stories of dying and rising gods before Paul came to them ..."

Putting it this way is quite simplistic. The detailed pagan mystery stories of imaginary gods and their endless fights and deaths is quite different from the biblical account. They are evidently fanciful stories which pagan people may tell around a camp fire at night.

The God of the Holy Bible is the Creator of the whole universe, Creator of all we know and see. He is the only God we can have a personal relationship with while living our daily life. All other religions have left that for the afterlife. That is quite a different perspective and is based on the recorded words in the Holy Bible which testifies of Him.

Muslims ought to know the Seven C's.

Creation

God created the heavens, the earth and all that is in them in six 24 hour days around 6000 years ago. His completed creation was "very good" (Genesis 1:31), and all the original animals (including dinosaurs) and the first two humans (Adam and Eve) ate only plants (Genesis 1:29-30). Life was perfect and not yet affected by the Curse—death, violence, disease, sickness, thorns and fear had no part in the original creation.

In Genesis, God explains that He created things to reproduce after their "kinds." And this is what we observe today: great variation within different "kinds" (e.g., dogs, cats, elephants, etc.), but not one kind changing into another, as molecules-to-man evolution requires.

Corruption

After God completed His perfect creation, He told Adam that he could eat from any tree in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:8) except one—the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. He warned Adam that death would be the punishment for disobedience (Genesis 2:17). Instead of listening to the command of his Creator, Adam chose to rebel, eating the fruit from the tree (Genesis 3:6).

Adam's sin ushered death, sickness and sorrow into the once-perfect creation (Genesis 3:19; Romans 5:12). God also pronounced a curse on the world, changing it completely (Genesis 3, Romans 8:20,22). As a result, the world that we now live in is merely a decaying remnant—a corruption—of the beautiful, righteous world that Adam and Eve originally called home. The good news is that, rather than leave His precious handiwork without hope, God graciously promised to one day send a Redeemer who would buy back His people from the curse of sin (Genesis 3:15).

Catastrophe

As the descendants of Adam and Eve married and filled the earth with offspring, their wickedness was great (Genesis 6:5). God judged their sin by sending a global Flood to destroy all men, animals, creatures that moved along the ground and the birds of the air (Genesis 6:7). Those God chose to enter the Ark - Noah, his family and land-dwelling representatives of the animal kingdom (including dinosaurs) - were saved from the watery catastrophe.

This earth-covering event has left its mark even today. From the thousands of feet of sedimentary rock found around the world to the "billions of dead things buried in rock layers" (fossils), the Flood reminds us even today that our righteous God cannot—and will not—tolerate sin, while the Ark reminds us that He provide a way of salvation from sin's punishment.

Confusion

After the Flood, God commanded Noah and his family—the only humans left in the world—and the animals to fill the earth (Genesis 8:17). However, the human race once again disobeyed God's command and built a tower, which they hoped would keep them together (Genesis 11:3-4). So, around 100 years after the Flood waters had retreated, God brought a confusion (a multiplicity) of languages in place of the common language the people shared, causing them to spread out over the earth. The several different languages created suddenly at Babel (Gensis 10-11) could each give rise to many more. Today, we have thousands of languages but fewer than twenty language "families."

All the tribes and nations in the world today descended from these various groups. Despite what you may have been led to believe about our seeming superficial differences, we really are all "one blood" (Acts 17:26)—descendants of Adam and Eve through Noah and his family—and all, therefore, in need of salvation from sin.

Christ

God did not leave His precious—but corrupted—creation without hope. He promised to one day send Someone who would take away the penalty for sin, which is death (Genesis 3:15; Ezekiel 18:4; Romans 6:23).

God killed at least one animal in the Garden of Eden because of the sin of Adam; subsequently, Adam's descendants sacrificed animals. Such sacrifices could only cover sin—they pointed toward the time when the One whom God would send (Hebrews 9) would make the ultimate sacrifice.

God sent His Son [100], Jesus Christ (the promised Savior)—completely human and completely God. The Creator of the universe (John 1:1-3,14) became part of His creation so that He might save His people from their sins!

The Quran also tells their faithful, "muaminin", people how Allah had appointed to present animal sacrifices for we read, "And accomplish the pilgrims journey and the "umra" (Pilgrim's journey to Mecca) for the sake of Allah. However, if you are delayed: then the easily obtainable sacrifice; and clip the hair on your heads not before the sacrifice has reached its predetermined location." Sure 2, 197 Al Bakarah. (A free translation from another language).

Cross

Jesus is called the "Last Adam" in 1.Corinthians 15:45. While Adam disobeyed God's command not to eat the forbidden fruit, Jesus fulfilled the Creator's purpose that He die for the sin of the world.

The first Adam brought death into the world through his disobedience; the Last Adam brought eternal life with God through His obedience (1.Corinthians 15:21-22).

Because God is perfectly holy, He must punish sin—either the sinner himself or a substitute to bear His wrath. Jesus bore God's wrath for our sin by dying in our place on the Cross (Isaiah 53:6).

Jesus Christ, the Creator of all things (John 1:1–3; Colossians 1:15-16), was not defeated by death. He rose three days after He was crucified, showing that He has power over all things, including death, the "last enemy" (1.Corinthians 15:26).

When we believe in Christ and understand what He has done for us, we are conditionally passed from death into life (John 5:24). The names of those who receive Him are written in the Lamb's Book of Life (Revelation 13:8; 17:8)—when they die, they will rest in their grave until the Second Coming after which they will be with Him forever (John 3:16).

The pagans transmitted a corrupted knowledge of this aspect of Biblical history in their believe in an immortal soul and their mystery religions.

Consummation

God, in His great mercy, has promised not to leave His creation in its sinful state. He has promised to do away with the corruption Adam brought into the world. He has promised to remove, in the future, the curse He placed on His creation (Revelation 22:3) and to make a new heaven and a new earth (2.Peter 3:13). In this new place there will be no death, crying or pain (Revelation 21:4).

Those who have repented and believed in what Jesus did for us on the Cross can look forward to the consummation of God's kingdom—this new heaven and earth—knowing they will enjoy God forever in a wonderful place. In the future, God will take away the corruption that was introduced in the Garden of Eden, giving us once again a perfect place to live!

What is needed to combat our society's evolutionary propaganda? For every Christian to have a worldview based on a proper understanding of the history of the world, as revealed in the Holy Bible.

Islamic Objection

"A true Jew would have immediately recognized the teaching of Jesus as a reaffirmation of what Moses had taught. But to many a pagan, it must have seemed new and strange and perhaps a little complicated. Most of the pagans still believed in a multitude of gods who, it was thought, mixed freely with human beings, mated with them, and took part in every sphere of human life. To the common people of Greece, any description of Jesus must have seemed like a description of one of their gods, and they were probably quite ready to accept Jesus in this capacity. There was always room for one more god. However, the actual teaching of Jesus negated all their gods, since it affirmed the Divine Unity". (Muhammad Ataur-Raheem, `Jesus: Prophet of Islam', 1992 edition, p. 62)

Objections and Replies

The Christian reply.

Paganism is based on the idea that man has to do something to appease his god. His god or gods can be capricious and his religion is based on fear. But God Almighty,Jesus the Good Shepherd Creator God, loves man and woman whom He made in His image. By faith people can feel secure in God. Fearing God in the Christian faith means respecting and obeying Him. It is our part to dwell in His Word, through which He testifies to us. The essence of Christian life is Jesus Christ in us, being obedient to Him. Jesus Christ is God verily.
There is no documented, recorded evidence that a man named Mohammed, who supposedly became a prophet of God, really lived. Muhammed is a Pseudo-Biblical Character (PBC), a composite character by early authors, who succeeded to impose through their writings a system of beliefs on their people, by which to control them.
Because Jesus Christ was too spiritual for their liking they chose a ficticious character which was more earthy, more warlike, not as pure - as their leader.
Muslims cannot prove that the man Muhammed ever lived, while Jesus Christ is documented and spoken of by independent, secular authors. In old Muslim writings, there was no continuous transmission. Ibn Ishaq, al-Waqidi, and others were cut off from the past: like many modern scholars, they could not get behind their sources and find incontrontrovertible evidence for Muhammed.

Islamic Objection

It is commonly supposed that religious honors were paid to the sun as a deity by a few isolated peoples or sects, such as the Parsees [200] and the ancient Ghebers of Persia, and some African tribes. In correction of this view we are prepared to support the declaration that the worship of the Sun-god was quite universal in the ancient world. It ranged from China and India to Yucatan and Peru. The Emperor and the Mikado, as well as the Incas, and the Pharaohs were Sun-god figures. And is the belief only an empty myth? So far from being such, it is at once the highest embodiment of religious conception in the spiritual history of the race. Likewise in the ancient Mystery dramas the central character was ever the Sun-god the role being enacted by the candidate for initiation in person. He went through the several initiations as himself the type and representative of the solar divinity in the field of human experience…

The Christian reply.

This assessment, that sun worship was worldwide is quite correct and is based on the sinfulness of the human race. Sun worship in Christianity has changed and is mixed up with Christian beliefs by nearly all Christian, Catholic and Protestant denominations by them still worshipping on the first day, Sun-day, of the week. Paganism impressed its influence upon the western world by retaining the names of stellar divinities for the names of the week. We have Sunday, the sun god's day; Monday, the Moon god; Tuesday, the Scandinavian god Tyr or Tisdag; Wednesday, Woden's day; Thursday, the god Thor (Roman Jupiter); Friday, the goddess Frige, (German) Freitag, (Swedish) Fredag or (Italian) venerdi; Saturday, the god Saturn. But there exists a small group of Christians who keep God's Sabbath day holy, these are the Seventh Day Adventists, the Seventh Day Baptists and some of the Apostolic Church as well as individual members who still go to the churches of their families heritage. Islam wanted to distance itself from Jews and Christians and so chose Friday as their holy day - a choice, like Sunday, which God condemns. The 7th day Sabbath day is not a Jewish day for it stems from creation week, before any Jews existed, and can therefore be kept holy by any person on earth without fear to be Judaizing. Judaizing has to do with keeping days holy which were part of the Jewish ceremonial system of laws pertaining to their temple services. All ancient peoples had a temple at least from the days of Moses and Solomon. Before Moses and Solomon, even the Egyptians had no temple in the sense of the temples of the 18th dynasty. [This author believes that the Egyptian 18th Dynasty is falsely dated before Saul and Solomon and that Hatshepsut was the Queen who visited King Solomon, that King David was the proxy ruler Thutmose I., that the El Amarna Age belongs in the time of Ahab, that Ben Hadad was Ashurnasirpal, Queen Nerfertiti was Isebel, wife of Ahab, who left Israel and married Akhnaton only to return and die by the hands of Jehu. See this site for the rest of the evidence.]
While there is the true Creator God, there is also Lucifer, the fallen angel, Satan, the devil and evil angel, who shall influence this world for a little longer until God executes judgment upon him.

Islamic Objection

These Sun-god characters, of none of whom can it be said positively that they were living personages, were, it must be clearly noted, purely typical figures in the national epics of the several nations. (The Great Myth of the Sun-gods, Alvin Boyd Kuhn)

The Christian reply.

This same situation also fits Muhammed. There is no positive proof that Mohammed existed. He is a composite character made up by Arabic authors who knew Jewish literature and composed this person by using characteristics and events from the life of Moses, the patriarchs, Jesus and sometimes even characters written about in pseudo-biblical sources.[1000] The same is true for Greek philosophers and well known PCB's, pseudo-biblical-characters like Thales, Pythagoras and Socrates.

Islamic Objection

The early Jewish Christians (Nazarenes and Ebionites) did not believe Jesus was God, or the 'son of God'.[1010]

The Christian reply.

The true followers of Christ are those who were baptized by the apostles and their converts and kept the faith as taught in the Holy Bible. The Nazarenes and Ebionites do not represent fully converted Christians.

Islamic Objection

The Christian conception is a distorted one, it teaches that Jesus was crucified on the 'cross' for the sins of other men, and resurrected on the third day. This story is not different from what we find in the Mystery Religions.

"The worship of suffering gods was to be found on all sides, and the belief in the torture of the victims in the rites of human sacrifice for the redemption from sin was very general. The gods Osiris, Attis, Adonis, Dionysos, Herakles, Prometheus, and others, had all suffered for mankind; and thus the Servant of Yahweh was also conceived as having to be wounded for' men's transgressions. But as I say, this conception had passed into the background in the days of Jesus" [The Paganism in Our Christiantiy, Arthur Weigall, 1928, p106.]

The Christian reply.

The biblical assertions about God are very consistent and revealed from the very beginning, to the first human beings, Adam and Eve. God's revelation about His plan to bring salvation and end sin has been gradually explained in more detail as evidenced in the Holy Bible from the earliest to the last books contained therein.
Pagan societies set aside God's way of life and chose the prince of darkness as their leader. Salvation for all people on earth comes only through Jesus Christ, God verily.

Islamic Objection

The Roman/Greek/Egyptian gods were sacrificed for the 'sins of mankind' and resurrected on the third day. There is a tradition that Krishna was also crucified (yet upon a tree) to deliver his people from sin. Notice the similarity between the words 'Christ' and 'Krishna', both worked the same miracles and ascended to Heaven, they were both "incarnations" as well.

The Christian reply.

There is a similarity in name between Krishna and Christ because Krishna has all the signs (at least based on his later sources) of being another PBC, a fictitious pseudo-biblical-character.
The order of who copied whom goes from the worship of the true God, to a falsified system of worship by unconverted people. The true light was copied from and distorted into a faded and darkened light - not vice versa. In other words, the worlds false religions cannot culminate into a true religion. That ought to give Muslims pause to consider the reality of their own religion. Truth does not derive out of a sea of error. Truth was there first, then was neglected and was carried on by a smaller group of people, but always had its followers.

Islamic Objection

The true genesis of Christianity lies in ancient India. It is the life of Kristna in the Bagaved Gita over 5000 years ago that we can look for the prototype of Christ. We can also find 180 similarities between the life of the Egyptian god Horus in the Book of the Dead, written in 1700BC. Both of these gods reformed the corrupt rule of the priesthood of their time and had them thrown out of the temples and instituted a system of worship and spirituality so pure that we see millions rushing to find these truths today in foreign countries.

The Christian reply.

Their exists no reliable, ancient history of India. This is proven by the fact that they don't even have a recollection of Alexander the Great carrying his might to their borders. Written historical records of India go hardly beyond 500 A.D. of the Christian era, some 1500 years ago. Their current religions are a mixture of some Christian perspectives mixed with folk religions since the days of the early apostles of Jesus, when they spread out among all these nations to preach the gospel of the risen Saviour there. The religious histories of the Asian people are not older then this. Later authors were cut off from the distant past of their people by the lack of reliable recorded history which report from real history before the time of ca. 500 A.D. of the Christian era. They had only vague writings, and guesses available to themselves to draw conclusions on.

Islamic Objection

When he was sixteen, Krishna left his mother to spread his new teaching throughout India. He spoke out against corruption among the people and the princes, everywhere supported the weak against oppression and declared that he had come to Earth to release people from suffering and sin, to drive out the spirit of evil, and to restore the rule of righteousness. He overcame tremendous difficulties, fought alone against entire armies, performed a wide range of miracles, raised the dead to life, healed lepers, gave sight to the blind and hearing to the deaf, and made the lame walk.

The Christian reply.

`Krishna', just like Muhammed is an invented, Pseudo-Biblical Character (PBC).

Islamic Objection

Paul created a doctrine about "salvation through the cross" while discarding the teachings of Jesus in its totality.[2000]

He established the falsehood that "faith in the resurrection" is the way to salvation while totally rejecting the sayings of Jesus (Matthew 9:13, 12:7, Hosea 6:6, Micah 8:7-8)

And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. (1 Corinthians 15:14-17)

"…the doctrine of resurrection on which many Christian scholars' belief hangs, is the sole work of Saint Paul as there is nothing in the teachings of Jesus himself on this issue." [Alhaj AD Ajijola, Myth of the Cross.]

The Christian reply.

The above is blatantly untrue. The Apostle Paul was deeply rooted in his knowledge of the Books of Moses, the Poets and Prophets of Israel. His message expands on what they wrote and provides deeper meanings not discerned before.

Only Jesus was without sin and death could not hold Him in the grave. The Mosque of Omar about 160 years agoMuhammed, if one would for a moment say he lived, he too was a sinner and also would need Jesus if he wanted to be saved. And like Jesus, the greatest of all God's prophets, Mohammed is said to have ascended into heaven from Jerusalem, the latter event which never happened but is just said by eager Muslim writers to have happened. According to the Quran, there is no savior who died on the cross. In Islam each believer must bear the consequences of their deeds on their own shoulders. There is no recognition of sin. This puts Muslims in great peril not to be prepared for the advent of the Savior from sin when he comes again. They will not be prepared. They can't see the signs of His coming.

Explaining the cited verses:

"But go ye and learn what that means. I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Matthew 9:13; 12:7
Jesus was continually pointing out to the Jews that their religion, based on ceremonies, was not what God had intended for them but of their own doing. The sacrifices of animal offerings had only a purpose in pointing out the seriousness of sin which requires a death sentence, but that eventually someone would come and transfer all the sins of the whole world on himself (Romans 5:10) and die for them, in their stead, because He Himself was without sin, and therefor able to overcome the claims of God's immutable law and become the living sacrifice. In other words, Jesus did not state what all his listeners knew, when he said: "I will have mercy, and not sacrifice ..." he meant to say, "I will have mercy, and not animal sacrifice(s). ..."
The whole sacrificial system intended only to point out the infinite mercy of God to fallen man, by means of His redemption by the blood of Jesus. We - people - have not chosen Christ, but He has chosen all men, 2Cor. 5:19.
When the Old Testament prophets and Jesus himself say, that God does not desire sacrifice, they mean that the death of sacrificed animals cannot save a single person, only God can, but that these sacrifices were ordained by God in order to give a visual, personal experience to human beings of how great a consequence the problem of sin has. The law that a sinner must die is incontrovertible. Only by the blood of Jesus can a sinner find redemption and salvation from his punishment of eternal death. For the Holy Bible teaches that while all people die the sleep death, only unrepentant sinners die the second, eternal death, from which Jesus, by His death on the cross, can save us. This is part of God's continual, progressive revelation and was not understood by the prophets of older times. The death Jesus died on the cross was not the first death, but rather the second and because He was without sin that death could not hold Him in the grave. He died this second death for you and me, that we may live if we accept His sacrifice for our sins.

Islamic Objection

And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. (1 Corinthians 15:14-17)

"…the doctrine of resurrection on which many Christian scholars' belief hangs, is the sole work of Saint Paul as there is nothing in the teachings of Jesus himself on this issue." [Alhaj AD Ajijola, `Myth of the Cross']

The Christian reply.

Jesus forecast his death and resurrection to his disciples who understood him not. Before Jesus, God was with Elijah who raised someone from the dead. The first person recorded in the Holy Bible to have been raised from the dead is this boy, 2.Kings 4:27-37; 8:1. The prophet Elisha's instruction to his servant Gehazi was designed to teach the servant and the people around that the power to work miracles was not magically inherent in Elisha's wooden staff. When Elisha then actually raised the boy from death was that not by cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, but it was a spectacular miracle of restoring life to one who had been dead for some hours.
God chose Paul to be His mouthpiece as He chose prophets before Paul's time. God revealed to Paul truths, like to no other prophets before him. God does not leave His people in the dark, but has chosen faithful men and women in all ages to present truths to the people of their time. A character named Muhammed was chosen by Arabic writers to present their world view instead of accepting Jesus as their saviour.
God would provide prophets among today's professed followers of Jesus Christ if they would care to find out under which conditions.

Explanations: Because God normally sends prophets to His church only when it is keeping His commandments. Notice how Lamentations 2:9 puts it: "The law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the Lord." Please review the following texts: Ezekiel 7:26; Jeremiah 26:4-6; Ezekiel 20:12-16; and Proverbs 29:18. These verses verify that when God's people disregard His commandments, He sends no prophet. When they begin to obey His commands, He sends a prophet to assist, encourage, and guide. So when God's remnant church for the end time emerged keeping His commandments, it was time for a prophet. And God sent one - right on schedule. "I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Rev. 19:10, and the seed of the woman "which keep the commandments ... and have the testimony of Jesus." Rev. 12:17;14:12.
Why do most churches today not have the gift of prophecy? The Bible verses: "Mischief shall come ... then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the elders." Ezekiel 7:26. "This says the Lord, If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law ... to listen to the words of my prophets, whom I sent to you ... then I will make this house like Shiloh (which was destroyed) and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth." Jeremiah 26:4-6. "... I gave them my sabbath, to be a sign between me and them, that they may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them. But the house of Israel rebelled against me ... they walked not in my statutes and they despised my judgments, and my sabbaths they greatly polluted ... for their hearts went after their idols." Ezekiel 20:14-16. "Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." Proverbs 29:18.

Islamic Objection

The Old Testament teaches that 'human sacrifice' is wrong, and the verses Job 7:9, 14:14, Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 deny the resurrection!

"[As] the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no [more]." (Job 7:9)

The Christian reply.

Job was tossed between faith and dispair because of the sufferings he endured. At times he saw only darkness before him, at other times gleams of hope and light flickered before him. The Book of Job helps us to understand that when man dies, all of him dies and he is buried and soon forgotten. There is no immortal soul like the pagans believed. While there is no immortal soul, the resurrection of Jesus Christ guarantees that His faithful people also will be resurrected in the first resurrection on the day of His glorious Second Coming as King. On this day the redeemed will be taken by God to heaven while the wicked who remain on earth will be slain by the brightness of His Coming. No unfaithful person will receive the gift of eternal life as the Judgment of God has already separated the good seeds from the bad and thus identified His faithful people.
The Holy Bible believing Christians, but not the majority of Protestant churches, believe like Father Jacob [renamed Israel] did, when it says,

"And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you [that] which shall befall you in the last days. ... Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father. ... and this [is it] that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them. And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that [is] in the field of Ephron the Hittite. In the cave that [is] in the field of Machpelah, which [is] before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a burying place."
These verses teach that Jacob knew that not something like an immortal soul of his would go straight to heaven and watch from there the affairs of his descendants. He knew he would rest in his grave until the unstated day on which he would be taken by God into His heavenly kingdom.

"And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he swear to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence. So Joseph died, [being] an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt."

Islamic Objection

The Old Testament teaches that 'human sacrifice' is wrong, and the verses Job 7:9, 14:14, Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 deny the resurrection!

"[As] the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no [more]." Job 7:9

The Christian reply.

No one sacrificed Jesus Christ, he laid down his life Himself to pay the price, for the wages of sin is death, "... I lay down my life for the sheep."; John 10:15,17.

The Book of Job teaches that there will be a resurrection:

"So man lieth down (in the grave), and riseth not: (at least until the blue words are spoken) till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep. (Notice, death is called a `sleep'. Why? Because they will rise up out of this sleep at the Second Coming.) O that thou would hide me in the grave, that thou would keep me secret, until thy wrath is past, that thou would appoint me a set time, and remember me! If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come." (Job is asking a rhetorical question. What is his expected answer? It is `Yes.' He will live again as Job refers to the change that will come for the rightheous, which we know today, is the first resurrection. He will wait for that day in his grave - being oblivious to time.) Job 14:12-14.

The second resurrection is also talked about in the Book of Job:

"Have you not asked them that go by the way? ... That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath." Job 21:29-30.

Islamic Objection

Christianity Before Christ

The 'human sacrifice' is entirely a pagan ritual which dates back thousands of years. Jesus could not have been a 'human sacrifice' on the cross because the practice was pagan and not Jewish. The Jews believed they'd crucified Jesus to prove he was false, yet God saved Jesus from the cross (Psalms 20:6) to disprove the notion that Jesus was accursed (Deu 13:5, 21:23)

The pagans used to sacrifice human beings for the "redemption of sins". According to the Gospel of the Nazorenes, Jesus rejected the doctrine of vicarious atonement.

"The worship of suffering gods was to be found on all sides, and the belief in the torture of the victims in the rites of human sacrifice for the redemption from sin was very general. (Arthur Weigall, `The Paganism in Our Christianity', 1928, p106)

The Christian reply.

God's chosen method of defeating sin was to defeat death, the inevitable consequence of sin. This plan was revealed already to Adam and Eve after they had sinned.

Highlighting the participants in the figures of speech in Genesis 3:15.

"And I will put enmity between you [Satan] and the woman [God's church], and between your seed [Satan's followers] and her seed [other Christians], it [Jesus] shall bruise your [Satan's] head, and you [Satan] shall bruise his [Jesus's] heel [when Jesus died on the cross]." Gen 3:15.

To all men this covenant offered pardon and the assisting grace of God for future obedience through faith in Jesus. It also promised them eternal life on condition of fidelity to God's law. This way the patriarchs received the hope of salvation.

"In thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed" Gen 22:18 was an enlargement of the original covenant from Gen 3:15. This promise pointed forward to Jesus.

"Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He said not, And to seeds, as if there were many; but as of one, And to your seed, which is Christ. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before God in Christ, the law, which was 430 years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of no effect." Gal 3:16,17.

As we already stated, truth was there first, error came soon, but yet later. Truth does not come out of error. Paganism came after truth was modified by sinful, unrepentant, Godless people.

Islamic Objection

Jesus was teaching his disciples in the outer court of the Temple and one of them said unto him: Master, it is said by the priests that without shedding of blood there is no remission. Can then the blood offering of the law take away sin?

And Jesus answered: No blood offering, of beast or bird, or man, can take away sin, for how can the conscience be purged from sin by the shedding of innocent blood? Nay, it will increase the condemnation. (Gospel of the Nazorenes, lesson 33)

The Christian reply.

The Gospel of the Nazorenes is not part of the canon of holy scriptures which makes up the Holy Bible.

The closest the Holy Bible comes to such a statement reads like this:

"For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, Saying, This [is] the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. [It was] therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these." Hebrews 9:19-23

Islamic Objection

Blood sacrifice is the oldest and most universal act of piety. The offering of animals, including the human animal, dates back at least twenty thousand years, and, depending on how you read the scanty archaeological evidence, arguably back to the earliest appearance of humanity. Many religions recount the creation of man through the bloody sacrifice of a God-man--a divinity who is torn apart to sow the seeds of humanity. (Patrick Tierney , The Highest Altar: The Story of Human Sacrifice, quoted in Acharya's Suns of God)

This is very similar to Christianity, which teaches that Jesus was the 'god-man' that took away the "sins of mankind", a doctrine foreign to the Jewish mind!

The Christian reply.

Life on earth goes back only about 6000 years. Sacrificing a lamb was God's chosen method to teach man that sin is no matter to be trifled with. It was a token or picture lesson intended to point to the real sacrifice, Jesus Christ, about 4000 years later.

The pagans learned these things from the people who were obedient to the biddings of God, but also falsified and corrupted all things pertaining to God and worship.

More Back and Forth

Islamic Objection

During the 4th century, the cult of Christianity was made the official "religion" of the Roman Empire, and Constantine became the political leader of the Church based in Rome. He introduced the pagan doctrine of 'trinity' at the Council of Nicea, and he changed the Sabbath for the commemoration of the sun-god.

The Christian reply.

Many Christians know that the faith of the early Christians was at first pure but that after time elapsed, their faith was muddied and changed once again, just like after the time of Adam, to become distorted and burdened down with all sorts of pagan customs. Many Christians know that God's true people are those who keep all of the Ten Commandments, a relatively small group among all Christian churches.

The word `trinity' does not occur in the Holy Bible, but this holy book teaches about God, the ruler of the universe, that He is Almighty, He is immortal, eternal, a God of love and mercy, a God who is just and righteous and far beyond human comprehension.[3000] Holy Bible believing Christians understand that such a God can not be imagined adequately by mere human understanding. There may be aspects to Him we have difficulty comprehending just because He is that great God out there. If we knew all about Him, He would be a somewhat smaller God to some. Therefore, if the Holy Bible gives some indications that there is God Father, God Son and the Holy Spirit, we accept that by faith, not by understanding. Only pagan gods, have no real and special complexity about themselves.

Lastly: Followers of Islam are also told in the Quran to keep the Sabbath day holy, for we read,
"And certainly be informed of the end of those among you who trespassed the sabbath law. So we spoke to them: Be then monkeys and despised." Sure 2, 66 Al-Bakarah. This Islamic text says, that the Sabbath, "jôm es Sabt", is to be kept. Just like the "tewrat" does. Those who do not, are to be called monkeys and the despised, according to this Sure.

Islamic Objection

The ancient Christian monuments, from which I have drawn my facts and illustrations, reveal so many obvious adaptations from the Pagan mythology and art, that it became necessary for me to investigate anew the Pagan symbolism: and this will account for the frequent comparisons instituted, and the parallels drawn between Christianity and Paganism. Many of the Pagan symbols, therefore, are necessarily used in this work--such, for instance, as seem to be types of Christian verities, like Agni, Krishna, Mithra, Horus, Apollo, and Orpheus. Hence I have drawn largely from the most ancient Pagan religions of India, Chaldea, Persia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, and somewhat from the old Aztec religion of Mexico. These religions were all, indeed, systems of idolatry, perversions and corruptions of the one primeval truth as held by such patriarchs as Abraham and Job; and yet these religions contained gems of this truth which it became the province of Christianity to develop and embody in a purer system for the good of mankind.
It is a most singular and astonishing fact sought to be developed in this work, that the Christian faith, as embodied in the Apostles' Creed, finds its parallel, or dimly foreshadowed counterpart, article by article, in the different systems of Paganism here brought under review. (Lundy, quoted in Acharya's Suns of God)

The Christian reply.

We basically already answered this quest on the spread of paganism above. God's true church of God is pictured in the Holy Bible as a small remnant church in these last days. This church is small because it does not accept these paganistic ideas, but knows that Jesus died for all on the cross, but not in the sense pagans sacrificed animals. Never. Pagans took up God's required sacrifice and made it into something ungodly. While Jesus died for all, not all will accept His sacrifice, because God never takes our power of choice away.
Unless Islam begins to understand the concept of sin, that the wages of sin is death eternal, Islam will not be able to partake of the great salvation God offers man in this life and will in time vanish into oblivion, just like all sin loving people will.

Islamic Objection

The earth-shattering statement:
That which is known as the Christian religion existed among the ancients, and never did not exist, from the beginning of the human race until the time when Christ came in the flesh, at which time the true religion, which already existed began to be called Christianity." (St. Augustine, Retractationes 1.12.3)
"The religion published by Jesus Christ to all nations is neither new nor strange…For though, without controversy we are of late, and the name of Christians is indeed new; yet our manner of life and the principles of our religion have not been lately devised by us, but were instituted and observed….from the beginning of the world, by good men, accepted by God; from those natural notions which are implanted in men's minds". (Eusebius of Caesarea, 260-340 CE)
"The Christian religion contains nothing but what Christians hold in common with the heathen; nothing new" (Greek philosopher Celsus,)
The above quotations are derived from Tom Harper's book , `The Pagan Christ'. He further states on page 29:
The evidence of close similarities between Christianity and other ancient world faiths is massive, detailed, extremely specific, and quite incredibly far-flung, stretching from the Vedic wisdom of India to the Norse myths of Scandinavia, the legends of the Incas, and the original spirituality of the indigenous peoples of North America.
These are false charges against Jesus (peace be upon him) which Islam clears away. The true version of Jesus can be found in the Holy Quran. What the Quran says about Jesus is supported by the Bible itself. The Bible requires the acceptance of Islam.
Below are quotations against Paul:
"If Christianity needed an Anti-Christ, they need look no further than Paul" -- The English philosopher Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832)

The Christian reply.

Jesus is the light of the world, not pagan commentators or defenders. The sources quoted represent men who were not believing Christians. They are completely unqualified to assess what Christianity is for they know not the Lord Jesus nor those Jesus chose to represent and speak for Him, including the apostle Paul.

The Bible requires the acceptance of Jesus Christ and Him crucified as our Saviour. The Bible requires of us to confess and repent from sin and pattern our life to that of Jesus Christ.

Islamic Objection

"We have already noted that every teaching of Jesus was already in the literature of the day….. Paul, the founder of Christianity, the writer of half the NT, almost never quotes Jesus in his letters and writings." (Professor Smith in his "The World Religions", p 330)
"Paul created a theology of which none but the vaguest warrants can be found in the words of Christ…..Fundamentalism is the triumph of Paul over Christ." --Will Durant (Philosopher)
"Paul's words are not the Words of God. They are the words of Paul- a vast difference."
--Bishop John S. Spong, Episcopal Bishop oof Newark. (Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism, p. 104, Harper San Francisco, 1991)
"Paul insists that there is only one 'gospel of Christ' (Galatians 1:7), so why did later Christians accept as 'Scripture' four written gospels?" --Graham N. Stanton, "The Gospels and Jesus", The Oxford Bible Series (1989), p.125

The Christian reply.

Paul was thoroughly acquainted with all that pertained to Jesus Christ and glorified Him in all he said and wrote. There is no disagreement between the two as the following list of scriptures demonstrates:

Romans 1:3 - Matthew 22:42. Jesus of the seed of David.
Romans 2:1 - Matthew 7:2; John 8:7. When judging others one finger points to them, the others back to you..
Romans 2:6 - Matthew 16:27; John 5:29. He shall reward every one according to his works.
Romans 2:13 - Matthew 7:21. Doers, not sayers, are justified.
Romans 2:19 - Matthew 15:14. Blind leaders do no good.
Romans 2:21 - Matthew 23:3,4. Actions speak louder than words.
Romans 2:28 - John 8:39. What you do matters, not of whom you were born.
Romans 3:31 - Matthew 5:17. God's law of love is still in force.
Romans 4:3 - Matthew 20:7,14. Faith, the power behind doing.
Romans 4:8 - Matthew 22:43. A great forgiven sinner can call Him Lord.
Romans 4:12 - Matthew 3:9. Family lineage is not important, faith is.
Romans 5:8 - John 3:16. Jesus died for sinners.

The Good News of the Bible
Is that enough? If Paul does not quote Jesus enough to the liking of some critics, it is because of the kind of problems he encountered in his ministry. His work was different from other preachers of his days. He, having been a Pharisee himself, addressed the problems they had and brought into the young Christian church. That required laying out the meaning of the Old Testament Bible books for them and the fact that after the cross, the ceremonial laws (only) were done away with - but not God's eternal Ten Commandment law, including the sacredness of Sabbath (was and is still binding for all people on earth) commemorating the day of `rest' at the end of the six day creation week.
Of Abraham it is said that he obeyed the commandments of God, that means he kept the Sabbath day holy. (Genesis 17:1; 18:19; 26:5) This writer likes to think of the Almighty Creator God not as of one similar in size to a human being but as immensely tall and large so we can understand how God can create galaxies, suns, moons and planets.

Paul also explained patiently why Jesus is the Saviour of the world. Sin is a multilevel problem. Jesus came to redeem humanity from every aspect of sin. The only way He could do it was by assuming our sinful human nature that stood condemned and needed redeeming. Sin includes not only specific transgressions against God's law, but everything that contradicts God's unselfish love. The way Jesus lived and died without sin (Pilate could find no fault in Him) made it possible that all man of all ages was totally saved from all sin - not just from its guilt and punishment, but from its power as well.
How is that possible? The Bible teaches, when God created Adam He created not only one man but the whole human race, Acts 17:26. When Satan caused Adam to fall, sin and condemnation were not confined only to Adam himself but rather entered the whole of the human race, his offspring, Romans 5:12,18; 1.Corinthians 15:21,22.
However, this does not make us guilty of Adam's sin but we do suffer the consequences of Adam's sin because he passed on to his children a life that had already sinned and, as a result, stood condemned to death, Romans 5:12-18. - The wonderful good news of the Bible is that just as all were condemned to death in one man, Adam, so God has redeemed all in one man, Jesus Christ.
When Jesus was born of Mary, God united in Mary's womb the divine life of His Son with the collective life of the human race that stood condemned and which needed redeeming. In this way, Jesus became the "second Adam." In reality, He became us, and we became one "in Him."
By His perfect life, which met the positive demands of the law, and by His sacrificial death, which met the justice of the law, Christ rewrote our human history. And in His resurrection, He changed humanity's status from one of condemnation to one of justification, Romans 4:25; 5:18.
Although all humanity has been redeemed "in Jesus Christ," if that history is to be effective in us individually, God's supreme gift to humanity - the gospel - demands our surrender to what God did with us (all mankind) in Christ. The objective good news is a truth that applies to all humanity, but only those who believe will actually be saved experientially, Gospel of John, chapter 3, verse 16.
As a result of this truth as it is "in Christ," we receive the following blessings by faith alone:
a) Peace with God, Rom. 5:1.
b) Assurance of forgiven sins, Eph. 1:3-7; 1.John 2:1,2.
c) New birth, 2.Cor. 5:17.
d) Adoption as children of God, Rom. 8:15-17; Gal. 4:4,5; 1.John 3:1,2.
For the Jewish people [the legalists] the Cross of Jesus Christ was and is a stumblingblock, for Muslims [the philosophers] it is foolishness, but to those who are justified by faith in Jesus Christ and Him crucified, it is the power of God to save, and the wisdom of God, 1.Cor. 1:23,24.
This Gospel of the Cross provides a solution for doing away with the principle of sin that has all mankind in its grip and makes it impossible for us ourselves to live a life of peace. But the Cross can deliver us from SIN! The Cross exposed Satan as a murderer, it saved humanity from the guilt and punishment of sin (1.John 1:7,9), reconciled or united the world again with God (2.Cor. 5:19), removed all barriers between different nationalities, races and classes of people (Ephesians 2:14,15) and it demonstrated God's unconditional and unselfish love for sinful humanity (Rom. 5:6-10).
Even though we cannot change our tendency to choose to sin, we can say "no" to sin and instead do the right thing - treat people as we would like them to treat us. So its is true that sinfulness - sin as a power that destroys our lives - cannot be merely forgiven; it must be destroyed - but the sinner can choose toe place his confident faith and trust in Jesus Christ and live. At the end of time, the forgiven sinner who chose to live by faith in God stands adopted by God and shall live in God's heavenly kingdom while the causer of Sin, Satan himself will cease to exist and sin will be no more in God's soon coming, new kingdom.

Islamic Objection

The following quotations are red:
I have inquired into some of the fundamental doctrines of Christianity; the examination has led me to the conclusion that the dogmas of the Trinity, the Divinity of Jesus, the Divine-Sonship, the Original Sin and Atonement are neither rational nor in conformity with the teachings of Jesus. These dogmas came into being and were due to pagan influences. They show that Christianity has departed considerably from the religion of Jesus. (The Myth of the Cross, )

The Christian reply: Obviously, ones presuppositions are always the root of how such things are interpreted. Someone who has never known Christ as his personal Saviour, cannot rightly judge who Christ or His church is. The Holy Bible teaches that sin mares all notions and affairs of man. It teaches that sin first started in Lucifer, Satan, the evil one. It teaches that Satan once was a highly placed angelic being. We are therefore not fighting spiritually against flesh and blood but against the dark powers of this world after they succeeded to bring sin to Adam and Eve. Islam seems not to recognize what the besetting problems in this world are and that they too are in the need of the Saviour. Jesus Christ, who has overcome every temptation which we encounter. He was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin. Only one without sin can defeat the cause of sin and `Mohammed' was not such a person, ye, we believe, he was not a real person at all.

Islamic Objection

This mysterious disappearance of Jesus could certainly be put to an advantageous purpose.
Moreover, it was commonly known that Jesus was born of a virgin mother though many were skeptical about it. Paul turned all these ideas to his own advantage and concocted the theory of sonship. (ibid, )
"Paul was the great Coryphaeus, and first corrupter of the doctrines of Jesus." (Thomas Jefferson, The Great Thoughts by George Sildes, Ballantine Books, New York, 1985, p.208)

Here is what the Quran says about Jesus, the Christos being the Messias, "And remember how the angels spoke, `O, Maria, Allah has chosen you und purified you und blessed you among all wives of all tribes . . . And how the angels spoke: `Allah gives you a happy message through his Word from him: his name shall be the Messias, Jesus (Issa?), Son of Maria, worshipped in this and the other world . . ." Sure 3, 43.46. Al Imran)

However, here comes the difficulty. The Quran says, Christ did not die. The Bible says unequivocally, Christ did die. Which is right? If the Quran is right, why would Allah lift up Jesus to himself into heaven, when he was not dead? The Quran reads: "Jesus has a place of honor near him." Sure 4, 159. Al Nisa.

The Christian reply: Obviously, non-believers are hardly qualified to comment fairly on these topics.
Those who have difficulties with the virgin birth of Christ and why Paul does not mention it, what could be the reason? The reason is simply that he whole heartedly agreed with the accounts of the birth in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. Romans 1:3 an 4:12 should be read in that light. Paul simply does not repeat what has already been established since he was not of that generation and accepted that on faith and revelation.

Islamic Objection

"Where possible he (Paul) avoids quoting the teaching of Jesus, in fact even mentioning it. If we had to rely on Paul, we should not know that Jesus taught in parables, had delivered the sermon on the mount, and had taught His disciples the 'Our Father.' Even where they are specially relevant, Paul passes over the words of the Lord." (Albert Schweitzer, The Mysticism of Paul the Apostle, p. 171)

The Christian reply: See above some examples that Paul did quote Jesus but that he did not write books of the type to reiterate all that Jesus said and how he said it, but Paul had to deal with problems among believers and churches. Quite a different work then Jesus did.

Islamic Objection

"What kind of authority can there be for an 'apostle' who, unlike the other apostles, had never been prepared for the apostolic office in Jesus' own school but had only later dared to claim the apostolic office on the basis on his own authority? The only question comes to be how the apostle Paul appears in his Epistles to be so indifferent to the historical facts of the life of Jesus....He bears himself but little like a disciple who has received the doctrines and the principles which he preaches from the Master whose name he bears." (Ferdinand Christian Baur, Church History of the First Three Centuries)

The Christian reply: Same thing applies. An unbeliever is not qualified to comment fairly on these subjects. Paul was called by Jesus himself in his ministry on the road to Damascus.

Islamic Objection

"Paul, not Jesus, was the founder of Christianity as a new religion which developed away from both normal Judaism and the Nazarene variety of Judaism." (Hyam Maccoby, Paul: The Mythmaker and the Invention of Chrisianity, p. 16)

The Christian reply: Paul did his work under the guidance of the Spirit of God Almighty.

Islamic Objection

"No sooner had Jesus knocked over the dragon of superstition than Paul boldly set it on its legs again in the name of Jesus." (George Bernard Shaw, 1856-1950)

The Christian reply: A rather simplistic viewpoint out of the heart of a crank. We can hardly take authors seriously whose working method is based on humanistic, evolutionistic philosophy.

Please read our replies to > The Council of Europe, Doc. 11297, The dangers of creationism in education, Report, Committee on Culture, Science and Education Rapporteur: Mr Guy LENGAGNE, France, Socialist Group by clicking here.

Islamic Objection

"Paul did not desire to know Christ. Paul shows us with what complete indifference the earthly life of Jesus was regarded.... What is the significance for our faith and for our religious life, the fact that the Gospel of Paul is different from the Gospel of Jesus?
The attitude which Paul himself takes up towards the Gospel of Jesus is that he does not repeat it in the words of Jesus, and does not appeal to its authority.... The fateful thing is that the Greek, the Catholic, and the Protestant theologies all contain the Gospel of Paul in a form which does not continue the Gospel of Jesus, but displaces it." (The Quest for the Historical Jesus, Albert Schweitzer,)

The Christian reply: To understand the Apostle Paul let us listen to what he has to say:

The Book of Acts, from chapter 20 verse17 onward:

And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.
20:18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,
20:19 Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
20:20 [And] how I kept back nothing that was profitable [unto you], but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,
20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Note: Paul is saying here that for the law abiding Jews as well as for the lawless gentiles, repentance and the walk in faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation.

20:22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:
Note : "bound in the spirit" refers to the irresistible prompting of the Spirit of God to follow what one has to do and is based on Matthew 16:21: "From that time forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day." And is also based on Luke 24:26: "Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?"

20:23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
20:25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
20:26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I [am] pure from the blood of all [men].
20:27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
20:29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
20:30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
20:31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
20:32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
20:33 I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel.
20:34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.
20:35 I have showed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.*
20:36 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
20:37 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him,
20:38 Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more.**) And they accompanied him unto the ship.

*) This saying is not recorded in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke or John and illustrates that Jesus spoke more words than we commonly find recorded in the gospels just cited. These words survived in the memory of those who knew Jesus and shows how intimately Paul was acquainted with everything pertaining to Jesus, the Lord of his entire life and for whose cause he died while Paul's critics merely died a critic's death.
**) This concluding remark indicates that after his good bye speech, Paul, experiencing similar emotions as Jesus, said a good-bye prayer, just like Jesus did according to John chapter 17.

Islamic Objection

"There is not one word of Pauline Christianity in the characteristic utterances of Jesus.... There has really never been a more monstrous imposition perpetrated than the imposition of Paul's soul upon the soul of Jesus.... It is now easy to understand how the Christianity of Jesus... was suppressed by the police and the Church, while Paulinism overran the whole western civilized world, which was at that time the Roman Empire, and was adopted by it as its official faith." (George Bernard Shaw, Androcles and the Lion)

The Christian reply: But we read in John 14:27:

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ brought new meaning to the idea of "peace" and opened wide doors for a new experience and relationship between humans and God, and among humans themselves too.

Paul also echoed the words of Jesus found in John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." in his epistel to the church in Ephesus, saying: "And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, [I say], whether [they be] things in earth, or things in heaven.", Colossians 1:20 and also in Romans 5:8-9, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."
From this we see harmony between the message of Jesus and Paul. It teaches that quoting the exact words of someone is not necessarily revealing a closer kinship than understanding the deeper meaning of the words. The critics who attempt to pitch Paul against Jesus are quite wrong in doing so. They don't know enough of the Holy Bible. To save space please consider the following list of scriptures which present the words of Jesus and where they are echoed by Paul:

01) The Jews received the oracles of God first, John 1:11; 8:31 - Acts 1:8; 3:26; Ephesians 1:11-13.;
02) to love all people, Matthew 22:37-39 - Ephesians 1:15-16.;
03) there is nothing impossible for God, Luke 1:37 - 2.Corinthians 5:17; 1.Thessalonians 4:16.;
04) having access to Jesus himself who is "the door", John 10:9 - Ephesians 3:12.;
05) Jesus commissioning the ministers of his church - Matthew 25:24-30, a task also taken on by Paul, Ephesians 4:12; Or compare these scriptures: Matthew 28:18-20 with Paul's missionary journeys, or Luke 10:1-3 with Philippians 2:19,25.;
06) Darkness stands for the old life, light for the new, John 8:12 - Ephesians 5:8.;
07) How evil can be reproved without opening our mouth, John 3:20 - Ephesians 5:13.;
08) Christian submission was taught by Jesus and Paul, Luke 9:23 - Acts 5:29; Ephesians 5:21.;
09) Christian based human relationships as taught by Christ and echoed by Paul, Matthew 10:29-31 - Galatians 3:28; Ephesians 3:6; 5:21.;
10) What is our role in the battle against Satan and sin? Are we to be passive, or is there a battle we must endure?, Matthew 16:24; Luke 13:24 - Acts 14:22; 2.Timothy 2:3; Philippians 4:1;.
11) As long as we remain in Christ, he is our assurance, John 6:37-39 - Romans 8:31-39;.
12) God is revealed through his son Jesus and the Written Word, John 1:1-3,14; 5:39; 17:17 - Romans 15:4.;
13) Telling how God equips us to overcome the assaults of Satan, Matthew 4:4; (also Deuteronomy 8:3; Psalms 119:9,11) - Hebrews 4:12;.
14) What the Holy Spirit does, John 3:3-8; 16:13 - Ephesians 1:13,14; 1:17-23;.
15) What Jesus and Paul says about the importance of prayer, Mark 13:33; 7:7; Luke 11:9 - 1.Corinthians 16:13; Colossians 4:2; Ephesians 6:18-20; 1.Thessalonians 5:17;.
16) the permanency of the relationship between Jesus and the believers, John 15:4 - Ephesians 6:21-24 ("to know", "in sincerety").;

Islamic Objection

"Paul abolished the Law, which was followed and preached by Jesus (pbuh), and corrupted the whole religion, giving it a new form. The main ambition behind all this was, in his own words, "to win a larger number" of followers; the followers of a new religion "the Pauline Christianity". (Dr. Roshan Enam, Follow Jesus or Follow Paul, p. 69)

The Christian reply: Dr. Enam also does not know the Bible. Many things were understood by the people Paul spoke to without each time explaining the particulars. These particulars we have to study for to understand the real meaning of what Paul is saying. Dr. Enam has obviously not done that.

Islamic Objection

"From the time Jesus left earth to the second half of the Second century, there was a struggle between two factions. One was what one might call Pauline Christianity and the other Judeo Christianity. It was only very slowly that the first supplanted the second, and Pauline Christianity triumphed over Judeo Christianity". (Dr. Maurice Bucaille, The Bible, The Quran, and Science, p. 67)

The Christian reply: But that triumph was not one like in a sports event. It is just God's truth which triumphed.

Islamic Objection

Thus, quite soon after Jesus's disappearance from earth, there was a definite and widening divergence between the followers of Jesus and the Pauline Church, which was later to become known as the Roman Catholic Church. Differences between the two were not only evident in life-style and belief, but were also clearly delineated geographically. As the Pauline Church grew more established, it became increasingly hostile to the followers of Jesus. It aligned itself more and more with the rulers of the Roman Empire, and the persecution which to begin with had been directed at all who called themselves Christians, now began to fall mainly on those who affirmed the Divine Unity. Attempts began to be made to change their beliefs and forcefully to remove those who refused to do so, together with the books they used. (Muhammad Ataur-Raheem, Jesus, Prophet of Islam)

The Christian reply: There was never a true Pauline church. He had trouble enough to keep in line those he baptized. It was always Christ's church as long as they remained true to Him in doctrines. As soon as members start on the path of disbelief, things change and they become estranged from God.

Islamic Objection

Naturally, those who deviated from the teaching of Jesus were prepared to change the Scriptures too, and even introduce false writings in order to support their opinions. (ibid)

The Christian reply: Ok, with that.

Islamic Objection

The Ebionites were stigmatized by the Church as heretics who failed to understand that Jesus was a divine person and asserted instead that he was a human being who came to inaugurate a new earthly age, as prophesied by the Jewish prophets of the Holy Bible.

The Christian reply: Ok, with that.

Islamic Objection

Moreover, the Ebionites refused to accept the Church doctrine, derived from Paul, that Jesus abolished or abrogated the Torah, the Jewish law.

The Christian reply: Correction: Paul did not teach that all of the Torah was abolished, except those parts relating to the temple services, the sacrifices of animals and all those things relating to that for Christ, the true `lamb' had been slain and fulfilled the ceremonial laws so that they were no longer needed. But the Ten Commandment Law, is eternal and always to be kept. These two types of laws were distinguished by the fact that the Ten Commandments Law was written by the finger of God on tablets made of hard stone and stored inside, underneath the lid of the arch of the covenant, while the ceremonial and civil laws were written by Moses with ink on parchment and stored in a pocket attached to the outside of the arch of the covenant indicating that both were important, but the laws of Moses were not of equal duration compared to the Law of God.

Islamic Objection

Instead, the Ebionites observed the Jewish law and regarded themselves as Jews. The Ebionites were not heretics, as the Church asserted, nor 're-Judaizers', as modern scholars call them, but the authentic successors of the immediate disciples and followers of Jesus, whose views and doctrines they faithfully transmitted, believing correctly that they were derived from Jesus himself.

The Christian reply: This view is not correct, for it does show their ignorance of the meaning of the sanctuary services.

Islamic Objection

They were the same group that had earlier been called the Nazarenes, who were led by James and Peter, who had known Jesus during his lifetime, and were in a far better position to know his aims than Paul, who met Jesus only in dreams and visions. Thus the opinion held by the Ebionites about Paul is of extraordinary interest and deserves respectful consideration, instead of dismissal as 'scurrilous' propaganda -- the reaction of Christian scholars from ancient to modern times. (Hyam Maccoby, The Myth Maker: Paul and the Invention of Christianity)

The Christian reply: Well, this author is obviously only partially informed.

Islamic Objection

"Let the reader contrast the true Christian standard with that of Paul and he will see the terrible betrayal of all that the Master taught.... For the surest way to betray a great Teacher is to misrepresent his message.... That is what Paul and his followers did, and because the Church has followed Paul in his error it has failed lamentably to redeem the world.... The teachings given by the blessed Master Christ, which the disciples John and Peter and James, the brother of the Master, tried in vain to defend and preserve intact were as utterly opposed to the Pauline Gospel as the light is opposed to the darkness." (Rev. V.A. Holmes-Gore: Christ or Paul?)

The Christian reply: This assessment, again, is quite wrong as our list of quotes above shows.

Islamic Objection

"More and more people are now aware that the Christianity they know has little to do with the original teaching of Jesus. During the last two centuries the research of the historians has left little room for faith in the Christian "mysteries", but the proven fact that the Christ of the established Church has almost nothing to do with the Jesus of history does not in itself help Christians towards the Truth. The present dilemma of the Christians is illustrated by what the Church historians of this present century write". (Muhammad Ataur- Rahim, Jesus, Prophet of Islam, 1992 edition, p. 13)

The Christian reply: This assessment may fit the nominal Christian churches, not the remnant Christian church as it will be revealed.

Islamic Conclusion:

The "Christians" are commanded to follow the Old Testament, the observance of the Torah (Matthew 5:17-20)
The Holy Quran rebukes them for not following the true Gospel of Jesus and discarding the Torah, the Law of Moses which Jesus cherished, and Christians reject!

The Christian reply: Do Muslims truly follow the Torah? Christians do not see them do so or else they do not know it very well and want to use only those parts they like.

Islamic Objection

Say: "O People of the Book! ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord." It is the revelation that cometh to thee from thy Lord, that increaseth in most of them their obstinate rebellion and blasphemy. But sorrow thou not over (these) people without Faith. (The Holy Quran, 5:68)

Doctrines in the Quran

The Christian reply: The Muslim faith fails or neglects to emphasize God's love and equality of men and women. Christians know that the Quran is a contradictory book. Study the following points:

  1. In Surah 41, when you do the math, it indicates that Allah created the world in eight days.
  2. In other places, it says in four days (Q 41:9, 10, 12) and
  3. in others in six days (Q. 7:54; 10:3; 11:7; 25:59; 32:4; 50:38; 57:4).
  4. The Quran does not have chronological order. It jumps from one issue to another.
  5. 85% of it is from oral Christian and Jewish traditions and other religions and philosophies. Therefore, it does not really have a sound doctrine on creation or any other subject.
  6. The Quran shows Mohammed himself did not know whether he would go to heaven or to hell, Q. 46:9;
  7. but this book says that Jesus was perfect and holy and that he is living in heaven, Q. 19:16-33.

Islamic Objection

From those, too, who call themselves Christians, We did take a covenant, but they forgot a good part of the message that was sent them: so we estranged them, with enmity and hatred between the one and the other, to the day of judgment. And soon will Allah show them what it is they have done. (5:14)

The Christian reply: We read words like `they' and `them' when they should read `we' and `us', `I' and `you', for we have all fallen short of the requirements of God. One of the great evils among the nations and tribes in this world, is the idea that one takes vengeance. We must recognize that the Almighty says, "To me belongs vengeance, and recompense ... the Lord shall judge his people ..." Deut. 32:25-26. Muslims, your actions speak louder then your words. You are as much in need of a Saviour from sin as all people are. Without repenting none will see God as friend, but as judge of his actions.

Islamic Objection

Did Jesus command Christians to convert people and ready them for baptism?

The Christian reply: God's prophet Isaiah wrote, "Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed." Isaiah 6:10. Similarly, James, the brother of Jesus wrote, "Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins." James 5:19,20. The apostle Paul wrote, "And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren." Acts 15:3.
Jesus said, "When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Acts 1:6-8.

Jesus Christ emphasized for his disciples to be witnesses of what the Saviour did for humanity. When people hear that Christ died for the sins of the whole world already, that will grip their heart and they want to confess and repent of their sins and follow Christ and be saved.
Christ served mankind in that He taught not new doctrines but explained Scripture so they would understand their meaning in a Christ centered way, Mt. 4:4; Lk. 5:39. He did not so much attack error as He presented truth instead, (Mt. 5; 6; 7). He shunned dissension and spoke truth in love. He broke down barriers in society, systems of caste and separation and helped, healed (Mk. 3:8; Lk. 6:17-19) and preached return unto God's intention for mankind. The Bible teaches that we teach the Word of God in truth and only the hearers, after such an opportunity, decide whom they want to follow. - Islam, however, is often tempted to force the conscience of people, a method forbidden by God. The Bible teaches do violence to no man (Lk. 3:14), any religion which forces the conscience is an abomination to God who alone is to control our conscience.

Islamic Objection

Say: "O people of the Book! exceed not in your religion the bounds (of what is proper), trespassing beyond the truth, nor follow the vain desires of people who went wrong in times gone by,- who misled many, and strayed (themselves) from the even way. (5:77) Christianity is the religion of Paul, not Jesus.

The Christian reply: As long as you know your own sins, do not point your finger at us - remember one finger pointed toward someone else leaves three pointing back to you.

Notes & References

[0100] In Islam the sin of `sherk' is the unpardonable sin. It has to do with worshipping someone who, in the mind of Muslims, is not God. The Biblical equivalent to that is idolatry, worshipping someone who does not deserve being worshipped, for only Almighty God deserves being worshipped. In the mind of Muslims, Christians commit the sin of `sherk' when they worship Jesus Christ. We must point out that this interpretation/ view is a dangerous misunderstanding of what divine revelation has given mankind in His Word. We would like to state briefly that God is above all human philosophy. The issue is which is God's revealed Word. We endeavor to provide some answers to these questions.

The Parsees of Persian ancestry, a minority in India, are said to wield unproportional influence in the economy and political life of their region, speak the Gujarat language, do not intermarry and are Zoroastrians by faith.
[1000] What are some of the parallels between Muhammed and Jesus? Here are some:
01) Mohammed was just the Arabic reflection of Moses, and not a C6th AD individual at all. Mohammed especially resembles Moses in:
a) the latter's visit to Mount Horeb (Jebel El Lawz) with its cave atop, its Burning Bush, and angel (Exodus 3:1-2), equating to Mohammed's "Mountain of Light" (Jabal-an-Nur), and 'cave of research' (`Ghar-i-Hira'), and angel Gabriel.
b) at the very same age of forty (Acts 7:23-29), and
c) there receiving a divine revelation, leading to his
d) becoming a prophet of God and a Lawgiver.
02) The mission of Mohammed, perfectly reminiscent of that of Moses, was to restore the worship of the One True God, the creator and sustainer of the universe, as taught by Prophet Ibrahim [Abraham] and all Prophets of God, and complete the laws of moral, ethical, legal, and social conduct and all other matters of significance for the humanity at large.
03) The Burning Bush incident occurred while Moses
(a) was living in exile (Exodus 2:15)
(b) amongst the Midianite tribe of Jethro, in the Paran desert.
(c) Moses had married Jethro's daughter, Zipporah (v. 21).
04) Likewise Mohammed
(a) experienced exile;
(b) to Medina, a name which may easily have become confused with the similar sounding, Midian, and
(c) he had only the one wife at the time, Khadija. Also
(d) Moses, like Mohammed, was terrified by what God had commanded of him, protesting that he was "slow of speech and slow of tongue" (Exodus 4:10). To which God replied: "Who gives speech to mortals? Who makes them mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go, and I will be your mouth and teach you what you are to speak' (vv. 11-12).
05) This very episode has come distorted into the Koran as Mohammed's being terrified by what God was asking of him, protesting that he was not learned. To which God supposedly replied that he had 'created man from a clot of congealed blood, and had taught man the use of the pen, and that which he knew not, and that man does not speak ought of his own desire but by inspiration sent down to him'.
06) Mohammed is, I suggest, basically Moses particularly in that period of Moses' life after his flight from Egypt when he dwelt amongst the Midianites as a shepherd and family man in the Paran desert region.
07) Mohammed resembles Moses as a Lawgiver and as an army commander (e.g. Exodus 17:9-10).
08) Mohammed also resembles Moses in his childhood in the fact that, after his infancy, he was raised by a foster-parent (Exodus 2:10). And there is the inevitable weaning legend [42]: "All biographers state that the infant prophet sucked only one breast of his foster-mother, leaving the other for the sustenance of his foster-brother".
09) In the Quran we even find a kind of Islamic version of the Exodus. Compare the following account of the Qoreish persecution and subsequent pursuit of the fleeing Moslems with the persecution and later pursuit of the fleeing Israelites by Pharaoh (Exodus 1 & 4:5-7) [42]:
"When the persecution became unbearable for most Muslims, the Prophet advised them in the fifth year of his mission (615 CE) to emigrate to Abyssinia (modern Ethiopia) where Ashabah (Negus, a Christian) was the ruler. Eighty people, not counting the small children, emigrated in small groups to avoid detection. No sooner had they left the Arabian coastline [substitute Egyptian borders], the leaders of Quraish discovered their flight. They decided to not leave these Muslims in peace, and immediately sent two of their envoys to Negus to bring all of them back."
10) That the Koran of Islam is basically just the Arabic version of the Hebrew Bible with all its same famous patriarchs and leading characters is apparent from what the Moslems themselves admit. For example [42]:
"The Qur'an also mentions four previously revealed Scriptures: Suhoof (Pages) of Ibrahim (Abraham), Taurat ('Torah') as revealed to Prophet Moses, Zuboor ('Psalms') as revealed to Prophet David, and Injeel ('Evangel') as revealed to Prophet Jesus (pbuh). Islam requires belief in all prophets and revealed scriptures (original, non-corrupted) as part of the Articles of Faith." [Zahoor, A. & Haq, Z., "Biography of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)", (http://cyberistan.org/islamic/muhammad.html), last modified on July 16, 1998.]

Exactly how the Arabs later crystallized out of all of this a C6th AD 'Mohammed' - separate from Moses - still needs to be determined.

Mohammed cannot be confined just to the person of Moses. He is what I shall call a 'Pseudo-Biblical Composite' [PBC]. Definition: A PBC will be a fictional, invented character who represents 2 or more real biblical personages, Old and/or New Testament - including Pseudepigrapha - and for whom a biography (dates, family, etc.) has been created.

11) Socrates as Jesus:
Despite the conventional dating, I believe that the similarities between Jesus and Socrates are so striking that I must conclude – based on the pattern that begins to emerge that Socrates is just the Greco-Roman version of Jesus Christ, a C1st AD Jew. 'Their' Greco-Roman names, largely ignoring the changeable vowels, are stunningly similar, especially when Socrates is given his full name of Isocrates. Thus:

[I] SOK Ra T e S
Ie S OuChRisTu S

And 'their' trials and deaths have often also been compared. There is something anomalous about the callous slaying of Socrates at that particular era of Greek 'history', when conditions would not really seem to have favoured it. Glover calls it "almost unintelligible" [89]. Thomas has written an entire book on The Trial[91], in which he seems to be at a loss to account for many things, not least of which was why poor old Socrates was martyred, and why they waited until he was 70 years of age to do this.
I think that our PBC theory alone explains in full the trial and death of Socrates. It is a mix of the`Passion and Death of Jesus Christ' and the death of the aged Maccabean hero, Eleazer (2 Maccabees 6:18-31).
12) The Maccabean Eleazar has the Socrates-like aspects of being,

(i) during Greek rule (as the Macedonian Greeks were ruling Palestine in Maccabean times);
(ii) "advanced in age";
(iii) a witness to "the young". Socrates was actually accused of 'corrupting youth'.
(iv) Socrates' death by swallowing (viz. the 'hemlock') may be an echo of Eleazer's refusal to swallow the pig's flesh.
(v) Eleazer's acquaintances of long-standing begged him to feign compliance by substituting meat of his own, to save himself. Likewise, Crito begged Socrates to escape, even to using bribery if necessary (Apologia, Scene II); but
(vi) Eleazer refused to do this out of honour, and instead faced death with courage; as did Socrates.
13) Folklore has sensed the similarity between the demise of Socrates and the end of the earthly life of Jesus, and thus has Socrates warning Pontius Pilate's wife, Claudia Procula, to save Jesus:
"… in her premonitory dream Socrates appeared to Pilate's wife and urged her to intercede on behalf of Jesus" [Thomas, G., The Trial (Bantam Press, NY, 1987), 175.] (See also Matthew 27:19).
14) Jesus-like likenesses attributed to Mohammed (though not necessarily practiced by 'him') are the following:
A) - The Islamic prophet led a life of simplicity and poverty.
B) - Mohammed had great compassion and love. He served the widows and orphans, the poor, sick, aged and homeless.
C) - When the prophet saw a blind woman stumbling in the street in Mecca, he led her gently home and thereafter took meals to her daily.
D) - One day, he saw a woman with a heavy load on her head. At once he relieved her of her burden and carried it on his own head to her house.
E) - Islam bears marked similarity to the Semitic religion of Judaism. It emphasizes the principle of brotherhood and equality of man, and is based on austere, simple living.
F) - The main injunctions of Islam are fasting, prayer, pilgrimage, charity and firm belief in the oneness of God and His prophets (particularly Mohammed).
G) - Mohammed was a lover of peace and non-vioolence. Selflessness and service to suffering humanity are the watchwords of Islam.
H) - When Mohammed was in Mecca once, a poor shepherd from the hills came to worship in the mosque. He worshipped in his own simple way, performing the necessary ablution, kissing the stone and bowing before the sacred spot. Tears flowed from his eyes as he prayed: 'O adorable Lord of love, show me Thy face. Let me be thy servant. Let me mend Thy shoes, apply oil to Thy hair, wash Thy soiled clothes and bring Thee daily the milk of my goat. Let me kiss Thy hand and shampoo Thy sacred Feet. Let me sweep Thy room'.
Such simple words of the honest and straightforward shepherd offended the priests who stood near him. They said to him,'What blasphemy is this? There is no need of such gifts for the omnipotent Lord'. But Mohammed defended the poor shepherd whose simple prayer, he said, entered directly into the ears of Allah more clearly than those of the priests, as it was uttered from his heart with intense love, faith, sincerity and reverence. He added: 'Make room for God's poor lover near me. Let no one be ashamed to have his company. He is humble, pure and exalted soul'. This story has surely been taken from Jesus' parable about the Pharisee and the tax collector (Luke 18:9-14), with the 'shampooing of the sacred Feet' being from Mary Magdalene's anointing of Jesus' feet with her ointment (7:36-39). In both stories, the suppliant is ridiculed by the Pharisee.
I) - Mohammed passed through a period of extreme depression and gloom. He received no more revelations and finally determined to throw himself down from high mountains. This reminds one of Satan's tempting of Jesus on "a very high mountain" and also asking him to throw himself down from (Matthew 4:5, 8). Likewise, Gabriel supposedly took the prophet to the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem where he ascended into heaven. (Cf. John 24:50-51).
Mohammed being in Jerusalem seems to be as fictional as is that other Islamic legend that Abraham was responsible for the Kaaba at Mecca. Fictional also is the Moslem claim to accept all of the Scriptures, including the Gospels. In Jesus, Islam finds its greatest contradiction.
[1010] In the second century A.D. extreme Judaizing Christians became known as `Ebionites'. Williston Walker, A History of the Christian Church, N.Y., 1959, p. 35. To them, Jesus was the son of Joseph and Mary, who so completely fulfilled the Jewish law that God chose him to be the Messiah. According to the Ebionites then, God is not almighty at all but just like another person. Ebionites failed the primary test for what a fully converted Christian believes, that Jesus Christ is divine, he is God and was born in the flesh, 1.John 4:2.
[2000] Please be reminded what the Apostle Peter said about the writings of Paul. Peter, of course, was one of the original 12 disciples of Christ. "And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction." 2 Peter 3:15,16. One does not see anything here where Peter says he disagrees with Paul's teaching of the Gospel. He condemns those who twist Paul's writings, as they do the other scriptures, to their own destruction.
"And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain." Galatians 2:2. It appears that Paul checked his teaching out with the brethren, probably the other twelve, to be sure that he was teaching in harmony with them.
[3000] Is God real? Does God exist? A more philosophical answer, not found in the Holy Bible in these words, is this: "He is the only Being existent in this world the reason for whose existence is in Himself, every other existing entity finds a reason for their existence outside of themselves in that sense He alone is perfect, His very existence is uncaused. He just exists." Rawi Zacharias.; Romans 1:18-20; Acts 14:17.
